tasty beers with high alcohol by volume (abv)

**Warning: This blog is not for the faint of heart!

Lean in close, beer drinkers. Because oh my, have we got a list for you!

If you’re looking for some of the best-tasting beers that you give you more bang for your buck, we’ve got you covered!

Read on for our picks for some of the tastiest brews with the highest alcohol by volume!

In no particular order!

G'Knight Imperial Red
Oskar Blues Brewery
ABV: 8.7%

Brewed at Oskar Blues Grill & Brew out of Colorado, this hefty, dry-hopped IPA packs a nose full of aroma, a mouth full of malt, and an unctuous hop flavor.

It’s an Imperial IPA brewed in tribute to a Colorado craft beer pioneer who died fighting a local wildfire in 2002. It’s tasty! And it brings a rich finish to a beer created for a great cause.

Tricerahops Double IPA
Ninkasi Brewing Company
ABV: 8.0%

Be careful with this one, people! It’s deceivingly drinkable. As an American Double IPA, the Tricerahops is brewed out of Oregon and packs a subtle punch. With a mix of earthy and floral hops (and a good amount of malt), this brew comes together beautifully to create a bold and balanced flavor.

With smoothness like this, Tricerahops is double everything you love about a classic IPA!

Golden Monkey Tripel
Victory Brewing Company
ABV: 9.50%

Golden Monkey is one of our favorite beers on the list with higher ABV’s. Have fun with it, but drink with caution! A Belgian-style tripel, the Golden Monkey is loaded with banana, clove, and isoamyl. The mix of sweet, sensual aromas and flavors of Belgian-style tripel is a dangerously good combination. If you’re looking for a beer that’s fruity and earthy, boozy, and dry, this is the pick for you!

 Freak of Nature Double IPA
Wicked Weed Brewing
ABV: 8.5%

Have you ever heard a better name for a beer than this? What adventurous beer lover wouldn’t want to get a taste of this San Francisco inspired monster of a drink. As an American Double Imperial IPA, this beer features an insane amount of West Coast hops, giving the drink a big, banging citrus flavor! For all you sugar lovers out there, this beer’s for you: following the classic style of the West Coast double, Freak of Nature uses a lot of it to play a large part in creating a dry and minimally bitter IPA!

Trappistes Rochefort 10
Brasserie de Rochefort
ABV: 11.30%

Go big or go home, friends! With more than 11% ABV, the Trappistes Rochefort 10 is no joke. A few sips of this Quad will have you seeing double in the best possible way! Based in Belgium and associated with the historic Rochefort Abbey—where monks have been brewing beer since the 16th century—this beer is one of the Brasserie’s three classic drinks.

Ballast Point
ABV: 12%

The Barmy is a strong, golden ale that packs a truly good punch. Named for a slang word that means crazy, the Barmy is by definition a wacky beer! But in taste, it’s amazing. Made with a blend of apricots and orange blossom honey, this sweet drink is full of subtle fruity flavor. The only thing crazier than the name is the amount of flavor (and alcohol) packed into one strong sip!

90 Minute IPA
Dogfish Head Craft Brewery
ABV: 9.0%

There’s a reason this Imperial IPA has been called one of the best in America, and that’s because it is! This 90-Minute IPA has a great malty backbone that stands up well against the extreme hops. This is one of Dogfish Head’s most creatively brewed beers. It’s the first flavor continuously hopped to create a pungent, but not overwhelming, flavor.

World Wide Stout
Dogfish Head Craft Brewery
ABV: 15-20%

We saved the best for last! World Wide Stout clocks in at a wild 15-20% ABV! The drink is brewed with a large amount of barley to create a dark and complex finish. The World Wide Stout is better with age, so stick a few in your cellar for safe-keeping until the day comes when you need a good, hearty drink. Trust us, this beer will do the trick!
